Howard Rheingold calls our attention to the relationship between communication, mass media and collaboration. He takes us on a journey across history showing us that the more these three elements performed a major role in society, society advanced. There was a time in which knowledge was not at the reach of everyone and even now not everyone in the whole world has access to literacy. But with the first modern invention that helped getting information to broader audience, the printing press, society has a greater access to knowledge. And from literary aware populations new works of collective actions took place. Now what I reflect upon this is that through communication we have the power of cooperation. Today for example we can observe, that thanks to global media and information technology such as facebook revolutions have taken place in our time. An idea well communicated can brake the barriers of time and space and change the world. It's like the spark of a flickering candle shining in the darkness, fighting to keep its fire burning. With the correct breeze instead of dying out, it can make a whole nation catch on fire. www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/howard_rheingold_on_collaboration.html
